At Sewa's Blossom Mind Therapy, we are dedicated to creating meaningful impact by equipping individuals with the tools they need to support mental health within their communities. Recently, our founder, Flora Sewa Mwang'onda, led an engaging and insightful three-day training session focused on empowering participants with foundational skills to handle individuals experiencing depression.
A Glimpse into the Training
The training was structured to provide participants with practical knowledge and techniques to make a difference in the lives of those facing mental health challenges. Each day covered a key topic, building a continuum of learning that was both accessible and impactful.
Day 1: Understanding Personality Traits
The first session explored the "Big Five" personality traits and their relevance in counseling. Participants learned how traits like openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism influence behavior and emotional responses. This foundational understanding allows for tailored approaches when supporting individuals with depression.
Day 2: Ethics in Counseling
Day two focused on the ethical principles that guide effective counseling. Topics such as confidentiality, informed consent, and professional boundaries were covered. Through real-world scenarios and interactive discussions, participants gained clarity on how to navigate sensitive situations while upholding professional integrity.
Day 3: Approaches in Counseling
The final day dove into practical counseling techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and problem-solving strategies. Participants left equipped with actionable methods to support individuals in overcoming challenges and fostering resilience.
